back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the

Question 3 ~ Blogger
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Condé Nast is an American Mass Media Company that would be perfect for distributing my media product. As the home for many of the media world's most famous magazines such as Vogue and GQ, it would provide a great basis for my own 'Altitude' magazine. Also, many people who are fans of Vogue may end up buying Altitude as well because they already know that the publisher provides great content and has a good reputation.
They do not currently have any music magazines which may be a disadvantage as the company would not have much experience in the field to fall back on. As they mostly produce fashion based brands, not all of their regular customers, e.g. the older demographic, may be interested in the Alternative R&B genre or any newer music genres. However, this could also be good for the company and magazine as it can broaden its reach to other areas of lifestyle. In addition, for those people who do enjoy music as well, it provides them with articles that they would not otherwise be able to read about.
My magazine's style would also be in keeping with Condé Nast's other products as it has the same clean, white look that they incorporate. Even though the fonts may be different to Vogue's usual serif font, my magazine would fit in with the likes of Teen Vogue as my magazine also aims at a young demographic. Teen Vogue uses many of the same styles of fonts that I have used in Altitude.
I would choose to have my product distributed digitally as I found out while doing some research that not many young people actually regularly purchase physical magazines. It would also be available for monthly subscription online. But I know that some people buy physical magazines when their favourite celebrity is featured in them or there is a special article that they are interested in. Therefore, I think it would be good to have some physical copies on sale, and these magazines would be distributed in stores such as H&M and Forever 21. These clothing stores are very popular with young people and so I think it would be a much better place to sell them from rather than places such as newsagents or WHSmiths.

Photography (Photo shoot)
These are just a few of the photos I took for my Contents Page. It was quite hard choosing locations to shoot in but I ended up picking the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as its architecture has a very urban look which I wanted to go for. The pictures that made the final cut are the bottom left and bottom right images. I thought that these had the best angles and locations. I also decided to choose the bottom left as my main image because it had a very eye-catching pose that I was really happy with and the stone gabions provided an interesting background.

Contents Page Flat Plan
Initially, I considered doing a one-page Contents as this would be much easier due to there being less workload. However, after analysing many two page spreads, I realised that it is actually much easier to have a double page as I can organise the pictures and information without it being too tight for space. It also allows me to showcase more artist images and be able to write detailed descriptions for all of the main articles. Although my final Contents Pages had a slightly different layout (with the cover story being put on the first page instead), this flat plan really helped me to visualise what features I wanted to include and potential sizes for each.

Front Cover Flat Plan
My final product kept to this flat plan in many ways with only one small difference in having an extra sell line. Although this plan looks quite simple, the positioning of each sell line proved to be very important and required much thought. I am very happy with how the spacing of the final product turned out as it is exactly how I imagined it with this plan. This plan also helped me to decide what type of shot I wanted to take for the main image. I decided to go with a mid shot as this is quite typical of all magazines and was easy to achieve.

Photography (Photo shoot)
This collage showcases many of the photographs I took for the DPS Photo shoot. The image in the centre was chosen for the final double page spread. I loved the colours of pink & blue in the picture and the light given off from the neon background. I also liked the vintage posters in the background and how they contrasted with the new modern look of the neon sign. Even though these pictures show my first real attempt with the Canon SLR camera, I was quite pleased with the outcome and I learned a lot about how to use the settings while at the location.
DPS Flat Plan
This flat plan was very useful in organising my thoughts about where I wanted each part of the DPS to be. Some of the conventions included have been inspired by real life products such as the "Q" magazine which I bought for research. All of the research I have conducted has been greatly beneficial in developing my knowledge of music magazines and their customs. In the final product, I ended up making some changes especially to the bottom of the page which I had not thoroughly considered earlier. However, this gave me a great base plan from which much of the page was constructed.
